Grain of Sand is about the futility of repressing your emotions and accepting that life inevitably brings ups and downs. These are as inevitable as the passing of time itself; the ticking of clocks, the tumbling of sand in the hour glass.
lyrics
A grain of sand falls through the glass capillary
Somewhere a shard of time is withering
You can hear it fall a thunderball or misery
Somewhere a hopeful heart is leaking
Chorus:
All this pain that you try and live with
And contain with a ball and chain
Well it tugs at your heart and spirit
And it gains force and weight
If you betray your sorrow
And you make out that its all ok
Then your tears are in vain
And as the sand slips through your hands just savour it
Another a shard of time is broken
You can hear it call, the spark of life, the Midas touch
Another shard of time is born again
Chorus
Counting all the grains
Ticking along, counting away
Storing all his weight
Heaving along, crawling on your knees
